04—Cruel Intent by J.A. Jance

J.A. Jance is one of the exceptions. She has series of books about three different characters: J.P. Beaumont, Joanna Brady, and Ali Reynolds. This is the fourth Ali Reynolds mystery.

In the first novel Ali, a former television news anchor is fired and Ali is accused of her husband's murder. In subsequent novels Ali moves back to her family home in Arizona and is involved in solving murders. In this latest book, Ali is renovating her recently acquired home and her contractor's wife is killed. The police believe he is the murderer but Ali believes he's innocent and finds the killer.

This is a high-tech novel filled with identity theft, a website for married folks who want to step out on their spouses, computer viruses and worms,  and computer encryption. But don't let that scare you off - it's not that technical and the technology doesn't get in the way of a corking good story!
