18—Debbie Harry Sings in French by Meagan Brothers

When Johnny was 12, his father was killed in an auto accident. His mother went into a four year blue funk of depression and Johnny taught himself to pay the bills and keep food on the table, and drink.

At age 16, his mother found Jesus and recovery, not necessarily in that order. Johnny drank himself silly and one day a friend slipped him something and he od'd.

He survived but his mom sent him from their home in Florida to live with his father's older brother in North Carolina where he attended a private prep school.

During his six months in Carolina, he makes friends, fights his enemies, discovers Debbie Harry, finds love, and discovers his fascination for dressing up as a woman.

This is a good fast read and a terrific coming of age novel.
