In this graphic novel we see a father leaving his wife and child and setting off to find work in another place. As the father prepares to leave we are shown the tail of a serpent (possible a dragon) looming over the city. An obvious reference to the danger, either physical or economic, which hangs over the city.
The images are fantastical and we don't know anything about the new country except that is a place and culture different from our own.
The images are a metaphor for the strangeness that an immigrant experiences when arriving in a new land.
This is a well-designed and thought out and thought provoking reading experience.
