35—Wonder by R.J. Palacio

Alfred J. Knopf, 2012

Auggie Pullman has a severe facial deformity. He has been homeschooled all of his life, but now he is entering middle school-5th grade-and his parents want him to attend Beecher, a private school. Auggie is doubtful, scared, and resists but eventually he agrees.

This terrific story follows Auggie through his first year at school. It is a story about growth of individuals, human kindness, and the desire of everyone to be accepted for who they are, not what they look like.
