06—Matilda by Roald Dahl

Matilda is a very precocious 5 year old. She taught herself to read at an extremely young age and by the time she enters kindergarten she has read every book in the children's section of the public library.

Her parents are self-absorbed boors. Her mother leaves her at home alone while she goes off to play bingo and her father is a cheating used car salesman. They both want little or nothing to do with Matilda.

The headmistress of her school is an evil, abusive woman and together with the help of her most wonderful teacher, Miss Honey, Matilda defeats the headmistress. As her parents leave the country to escape the law they allow Matilda to live with Miss Honey.
