32—The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan

Miramax/Hyperion Books for Children, 2005

12 year old Percy Jackson, is the son of a mortal woman and the Greek god Poseidon. He is in 6th grade and in his 6th school since entering 1st grade. He always gets in trouble and assumes it is his adhd. He also doesn't yet know he is the son of a Greek god.

At the end of 6th grade his mother sends him to a special camp for demigods, the mortal children of the Greek gods. Here he learns his true nature, that he is the son of Poseidon, receives special training, begins to learn to control his powers, and is sent on a dangerous quest to retrieve the power tokens of Zeus and Hades. He is helped by a satyr and a daughter of Athena and meets a series of mythological creatures trying to destroy him.

On his quest he learns that Kronos, the main god of the Titans, is trying to free himself from captivity in the underworld. Kronos has used his powers to force Ares to help him and is the force behind the thefts.

This is a good read and the first in Riordan's Percy Jackson and the Olympians series.
